GILROY, CA — The beginning of the school year is a good time to do a little research on how your teachers stack up against others — whether you’re sending your children to kindergarten for the first time or if they’re preparing to graduate.

Niche, which rates everything in education, has created a list of what it considers the schools with the best teachers in the Gilroy Unified School District.

According to Niche.com, the rankings are based on seven factors: academic grades, parent/student surveys on teachers, teacher absenteeism, teacher salary index, teachers in their first or second year, average teacher salary and the student-teacher ratio.

Dr. TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy has the best teachers in the school district, according to the rankings. With 273 total students in the school, and a student-teacher ratio of 32:1, Dr. TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy had an A rating in teachers and A+ overall Niche grade.

Nearby Christopher High School followed in second place with a total of 1,761 students and a 23:1 student-teacher ratio. It was given a B rating in teachers and a B+ overall Niche grade.
