8 Gilroy Hospital ER Staffers Test Positive For COVID-19: Report

GILROY, CA — At least eight ER staffers at a Gilroy hospital have tested positive for the coronavirus, KRON4 reports.

The hospital didn’t indicate the source of the outbreak according to the report.

“The widespread transmission of COVID-19 in Santa Clara County and neighboring counties has unfortunately impacted our workforce and the workforce of all healthcare facilities in the Bay Area,” the hospital said in a statement.

SLRH last week reported maxing out its capacity and sending patients to surge beds.

The Gilroy hospital is the second South Bay health care center to report outbreak this month.

A San Jose Kaiser hospital reported an outbreak that’s swelled to 60 reported cases included one known death believed to have been caused by an employee wearing an “air-powered” costume on Christmas Day.

The Kaiser incident remains under investigation.

County officials have not ruled out the possibility that the San Jose outbreak may be linked to the U.K. variant of the coronavirus that’s already overwhelmed hospitals in much of the nation.
