NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — Residents across parts of the South Bay and Central Coast got an early morning wake-up call when two earthquakes struck within 41 minutes of each other, shaking homes from Gilroy to Salinas.
The first earthquake, measuring magnitude 3.0, struck at 7:04 a.m. about 7.4 miles east-southeast of Gilroy, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake originated at a depth of roughly 3 miles, and residents in Gilroy and Hollister reported feeling weak shaking.
A second, slightly stronger earthquake followed at 7:45 a.m. The magnitude 3.2 tremblor was centered near Aromas.
That one hit about 9.3 miles south-southwest of Gilroy, at a depth of 4.5 miles miles, according to the USGS.
Residents in Salinas, Watsonville, Hollister, San Juan Bautista, and surrounding communities reported feeling light shaking after the second earthquake.
No immediate signs of damage or injuries from either quake were reported.
