• Sharks 'Pause' Gilroy Ice Skating Facility 'Indefinitely' (sanjoseinside.com) — Gilroy's long-discussed Sharks Ice skating complex at the Sports Park has been put on indefinite hold after the city council unanimously ruled the project is no longer financially feasible. Rising construction and borrowing costs more than doubled estimates to about $57 million, though both the city and Sharks say they'd revisit the rink if economic conditions improve, while annexation of the park continues.
• Earthquake of magnitude 2.5 registered near Gilroy, CA on Oct. 15 (sacbee.com) — A small 2.5-magnitude earthquake shook an area about six miles east-southeast of Gilroy late Thursday morning, but quakes of this size rarely cause damage. Still, residents are reminded to review basic earthquake safety steps like drop, cover and hold on, and to report any shaking they felt to the U.S. Geological Survey's online form.
• 'On a hot streak': Big leases, smaller vacancy rates help rally in Silicon Valley office market (siliconvalley.com) — Gilroy's office market is one of the tightest in the South Bay, with vacancy dropping to just 1.5% last quarter, down from 2.5%. A broader rebound in Silicon Valley leasing, driven by tech and AI firms plus major renewals in Sunnyvale, signals improving demand that could influence commercial rents and future development around Gilroy and neighboring Morgan Hill.
