ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: Gilroy High Boys Soccer Player Jorge Sanchez
The burly forward has been healthy and a force on the front line for the first place Mustangs.
Career Highlight: “Our first league game against Alisal this year,” Sanchez said. “We hadn’t beat them at home since 2007, I think. I just told everyone big players show up in big games. We beat them 5-2 and it felt great.”
Go-to Move: “I like to bring the ball up top in the midfield and try to use my size,” Sanchez said.
Mac or PC? “PC, their more simple to me,” Sanchez said.

College Plans: “I’m definitely looking at some four-year colleges,” Sanchez said. “I really like Sac State. They made it to the NCAA tournament this year”
Favorite Activity off the Court: I like hanging out with my friends,” Sanchez said.

Favorite TV Show: “The Defenders, it’s a new show on CBS about lawyers in Las Vegas,” Sanchez said.
Teammate(s) You’ll Never Forget: “Kristian Urias. We’ve been together since my freshman year,” Sanchez said. “We also play together on a club team in Salinas. It’s called the Communal Blast. We’re pretty good.”
The final two questions of the interview were directed to Gilroy High boys soccer coach Armando Padilla.
Best Skill: “His size, he’s 6-foot-2, 210-pounds and he still brings a lot of speed to go along with that size,” Padilla said. “He’s got 14 goals and 10 assists this year. He does a lot of damage in front of the goal.”
Lasting Memory: “His freshman year we knew we had something special,” Padilla said. “Injuries hurt him during the next two years. He dealt with ankle and groin injuries. This year he has really caught on. He had a great finish against a really strong Corona Del Mar team earlier in the season.”
