Young Actors Needed for Local Musical

If you're an actor between the ages of 6 and 17 years old and enjoy singing, then a production based on a compilation of Dr. Seuss' most popular books may be just right for you.

The City of Gilroy Recreation Department and director Michelle Serrano are holding auditions for upward of 18 characters to perform in Seussical Jr. The musical is a children's version of Seussical, which includes a collection of beloved characters from an assortment of books written by Dr. Seuss.

Children are needed to fill the roles of elephants, birds, a fish, and of course, the celebrated Cat in the Hat, plus many more.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, January 7th at the Gilroy Senior Center. Children between the ages of 6-to-11 years old are asked to show up at 3:30 p.m., while those between 12-to-17 years old should arrive by 5:30 p.m.

A list detailing each character needed in Seussical Jr. is attached to the right, as well as the rehearsal schedule. Rehearsals begin on Jan. 18th and continue through Thursday, April 12th. Opening night will be on Friday, April 13th.

Audition notes provided by Push Studios:

• Dress in comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes.
• Prepare a short acappella song to sing.
• If you are 12-to-17 years old, you also need to prepare a short monologue or poem.
• Bring a head-shot (any close-up photo)
• Bring a resume detailing past productions (a form will be provided if needed)
• Bring a list of all conflicts from January 18 through April 22. 
• Those who are unable to attend on Jan. 7th can come Jan. 8th at 12:30 p.m.
• Call Backs (if needed) will be held on Jan. 8th (times will be announced to those needed after auditions).

When: Saturday, Januaury 7th. Note: Children who are unable to attend on the 7th can audition on January 8th as well.
Where: Gilroy Senior Center, located at 7371 Hanna Street. Young actors are asked to arrive 15 minutes early.
