Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month In City Of Gilroy

Every year, September 15-October 15 marks Hispanic Heritage Month. It’s an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans who trace their roots back to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean.

We’ve compiled a list of five creative ways to honor Hispanic Heritage Month in 2020.

1. Check out Scholastic’s Teacher’s Activity Guide “Celebrate Hispanic Heritage.” This a great resource for teachers and students. http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/hispanic/index.htm
2. Virtually Explore the Smithsonian American Art Museum showcasing a digital exhibition, “Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art.” https://americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/our-america
3. Watch a documentary on PBS from a collection of eight unique films which highlighting Latinx culture in the United States. https://www.pbs.org/independentlens/blog/honor-hispanic-heritage-month-with-eight-unique-documentaries/
4. Learn to speak Spanish. Dedicate a word a day, send it out via email, post it in your home, and find fun way’s to incorporate the word throughout the day.
5. Tell Someone. Discuss what you learned with at least one other person. Share a fun fact on social media, call your best friend, invite your family to participate, or host a viewing party when you explore the resources above.
