Coroner IDs 4 Killed In Suspected DUI Crash Tuesday In Gilroy

The fatalities were a man, 24, and three teens, all 18. One female attended Christopher H.S. -- the second student to die in a week.

A man and three teens killed in a suspected DUI crash just outside of Gilroy on Tuesday night have all been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office. They were 24-year-old Joseph Vasquez Flemate and Yesenia Mendoza Pina, Yolanda Jimenez and Sara Williams, all 18 years old.

All four people who died were Gilroy residents, according to the medical examiner’s office.

They were passengers in a 1997 Ford Mustang that crashed on Leavesley Road east of New Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, when 23-year-old Anthony Imbronone III was allegedly driving the vehicle while under the influence, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The vehicle had flipped into a concrete drainage ditch while negotiating a hard right curve, according to the CHP. Imbronone, the only survivor of the crash, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter, CHP officials said. He was hospitalized at Regional Medical Center of San Jose with major injuries, according to the CHP. An update on his condition was not immediately available this morning.

Williams was a senior at Christopher High School, where principal Paul Winslow said there were eight grief counselors available for students today. Williams was involved in the school’s art program and has a twin brother who is also a senior at the school, according to school officials.

Students and staff were asked to wear blue and black, Sara’s favorite colors, in her memory today, Winslow said.

Students have also tied blue ribbons around the campus to remember the 18-year-old, he said.

Students and staff plan to hold events in her honor in the coming days and weeks, school officials said. It is the second death the school is coping with in less than a week.

Natalia Salcido, 15, a sophomore at Christopher High, was killed in a single car crash Saturday night, according to school officials.

A memorial for Natalia is planned at the school’s gym Sunday, on what would’ve been her 16th birthday, according to Winslow. Notes to Sara and Natalia have been written with chalk all over the school’s main quad, Winslow said.

The CHP is continuing to investigate Tuesday night’s crash.

Anyone who may have information about the case is asked to call the CHP’s Gilroy/Hollister office at (408) 848-2324.
