Crews Fire Near Gilroy 90% Contained: Cal Fire
The blaze is expected to be fully contained by July 16, Cal Fire said.
GILROY, CA —The Crews Fire, which has burned through a rural mountainous area northeast of Gilroy for most of this week, was 90 percent contained as of Friday morning, Cal Fire announced on Twitter.

The blaze did not spread on Thursday. It reached 5,513 acres, destroyed one structure and threatened many others but caused no injuries.
Cal Fire's announcement set the expected date of full containment back by several days to July 16.

The Crews Fire was reported at around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday. The blaze originated at Crews Road near Oak Spring Circle and spread east towards the Canada Road area, according to Cal Fire.
The fire's cause remained under investigation.
