Crews Fire Near Gilroy Grows To 5,400 Acres
The Santa Clara County blaze more than doubled in size Monday.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Crews Fire in a rural area northeast of Gilroy more than doubled in size Monday, according to Cal Fire, which announced Monday evening that the blaze had churned through an estimated 5,400 acres.
The blaze had burned an area of 2,000 acres in Cal Fire’s previous report late Monday morning.
The blaze was 50% contained as of Tuesday evening according to Cal Fire.

The Crews Fire, which was reported at around 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, originated at Crews Road near Oak Spring Circle and spread east towards the Canada Road area, according to Cal Fire.
The blaze destroyed two buildings and has triggered evacuations that remain in effect, Cal Fire said.

The evacuations included homes along Kenyatta Road, where some farm animals had to be moved fast-charging blaze approached the area, KTVU reports.
The blaze had been at 0% containment as of Sunday night.
