Get Out in Gilroy: Derby Girls, Art and Spooky Fun

RAMS soccer, the South Santa Clara Derby Girls, and much more are happening in and around town this weekend.

Looking for something to do around town this weekend? Well, look no further because Patch has done the research, and compiled a list of five fun things to do around town today and over the weekend.

1) RAMS Soccer

Find out what's happening in Gilroyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

When/Where: Friday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. at Gavilan College in Gilroy.

Why Go: Check out the Gavilan College RAM'S soccer players  face off against Foothill College. It's a home game, so attendees won't have to drive far to catch the action.

2) South County Derby Girls

Where/When: Sat Oct 15th at Anchor Point Christian School. Doors open at noon, and the whistle blows at 1 p.m.

Why Go: South County Derby Girls are hosting their first home Roller Derby bout! They will be skating against the Monterey Bay Derby Dames. There will be Raffles, food, live music and some serious derby action. Check out the excitement and support your local derby team. 

Pricing: $10, and free for kids under 10 years old.

3) The Annual California Folklorico Festival

Where/When: Gavilan College theater, Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: There will be dance workshops for all ages, a gala show, group performances and a handful of local food vendors. Plus, proceeds benefit Gavilan's outreach program, Arts Back in the Classroom.

Pricing: Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

4) First Annual Autumn Arts & Crafts Fair and Open Studio Tours

When/Where: This Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gilroy Center for the Arts, located at 7341 Monterey St.

Why Go: Hosted by the Gilroy Arts Alliance, the event is sure to be a blast with 18 local artists and crafts vendors. Three of the participating Open Studios artists will also be present. Attendees will have the chance to pick up maps and information about the other artists and locations of their studios at the event. Some of the participating artists include Erika Montoya, Francis Sacco, Janet Wenholz, Clay Pigeon Pottery, Marilyn Host and Nader and Elizabeth Khaghani.

5) Halloween Scary Boo at Gilroy Gardens

When/Where: Ongoing through Oct. 30

Why Go: There will be witches, wizards, goblins & ghosts community scarecrow displays, a hay maze for the little ones with friendly ghosts, a pinnacles rock maze, a spooky petting zoo and a spider's lair. Gilroy Gardens also has trick'r treating every weekend through the 30th. Children are welcome to wear costumes, but staff ask adults to save their costumes for another time.
