Gilroy Fugitive Situation Prompts School Lockdown: Police
BREAKING: Police say the wanted man initially refused to exit a home near the school.

GILROY, CA -- A Gilroy school was placed on lockdown Wednesday when a fugitive wanted for violating his parole terms refused to come out of a nearby residence, Gilroy police said in a statement. The Gilroy Police Department initially received information at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday that Robert Candelaria, 29, was at a home in the 1000 block of Third (3rd) Street, according to the statement.
Officers went to the house, surrounded it and instructed Candelaria to come outside, but he initially refused to comply, police said.
The campus of El Roble Elementary School, which is located at 930 3rd St., was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution because of its close proximity to the scene, police said.

Within 45 minutes, Candelaria agreed to exit the house and was placed into custody, according to police.
