Gilroy Gun Buyback Coming Up This Weekend
The buyback is Gilroy's first in 25 years. Police departments are offering $100 for handguns and shotguns, and $200 for assault weapons.
GILROY, CA — The city of Gilroy is hosting an anonymous buyback event for unwanted guns this weekend — its first such buyback in 25 years, the city said in a news release.
The buyback will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the City of Gilroy Corporation Yard, at 613 Old Gilroy Street.
Co-hosted by the Gilroy and Morgan Hill police departments, the departments are offering $100 for handguns, rifles and shotguns, and $200 for assault weapons.

Firearms must be functional and the buyback limits five firearms per person. Guns collected and found to be lost or stolen will be returned to their legal owners, while all others will be destroyed.
The firearms must be unloaded in the trunk of the trader's car. No walk-ups are allowed and no ammunition will be accepted.

The buyback is a first-come, first-served basis with the limited funds. Authorities may limit funds to an individual, regardless of the number of weapons bought back.
