Gilroy Hospital Reaches ICU Capacity In Coronavirus Surge

At least three hospitals in the South Bay reached ICU capacity Wednesday, with only 31 beds left in care units across Santa Clara County.

GILROY, CA — St. Louise Hospital in Gilroy and two other hospitals in Santa Clara County reached capacity in intensive care units Wednesday, a spokesman from Santa Clara County told Patch. The county only had 31 ICU beds available as of Wednesday afternoon.

Regional Medical Center of San Jose was also full, but still accepting patients through its emergency room, NBC Bay Area reported.

Dr. Sara Cody and county health officials were expected to discuss the situation with the County of Santa Clara Health and Hospital Committee Wednesday afternoon with updates on COVID-19, the vaccination plan and hospital status.

The county has a reported total of 41,316 cases as of Wednesday, with a total of 403 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The county reported that 90 patients were in ICU beds.
