Gilroy Man Arrested, Arraigned For October Fatal Crash

A Gilroy motorcyclist died following an accident Oct. 7 on Hecker Pass Highway.

News from the Gilroy Police Department:

On 10/07/14 at approximately 3 pm, Gilroy Police Officers responded to the 2300th Block of Hecker Pass Hwy for a vehicle vs. motorcycle collision.

Harold Baugher was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Hecker Pass Hwy when the driver of 2003 GMC Yukon Sports Utility Vehicle; with a trailer in tow, made an unexpected left turn in front of him.

Mr. Baugher’s motorcycle struck the SUV causing major injuries to Mr. Baugher and eventually succumbed to these injuries on 10/15/2014.

Members of the Gilroy Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. After weeks of fact gathering and interviews, the investigation was completed and forwarded to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for criminal review.

On 12/09/2014 the District Attorney’s Office issued a warrant citing misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges for the driver of the GMC SUV; Aurelio Maldonado, a 43 year old Gilroy Resident.

Mr. Maldonado was arrested on 12/23/2014 by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department. He posted bail and was arraigned Tuesday, 2/3/2015, at the Santa Clara County Superior Court. Results of this appearance are pending.
