Gilroy Man Arrested In Tuesday Night Stabbing

The victim, 21, was treated for a stab wound to his face.

A 24-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing another man in the face in Gilroy on Tuesday night, police said. Jose Lara Jr., a Gilroy resident, was arrested after officers responded at 9:58 p.m. to a report of a fight in the 300 block of Mantelli Drive, according to police.

The first officer to arrive on scene found Lara fighting with the 21-year-old victim, who had a stab wound to his face. The two were separated and detained until additional officers arrived, police said.

The victim was then taken to a hospital to be treated for the laceration to his face, an injury not considered life-threatening, and was later released.

Lara was also briefly hospitalized with minor injuries before being booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police. Investigators believe Lara and the victim know each other but do not know why Lara stabbed him. The victim was able to defend himself and engaged Lara in a fight until police arrived.
