Gilroy Man Killed In Weekend Crash On Hwy 101
The 35 year old was pronounced dead at the scene. A 23-year-old passenger, also from Gilroy, suffered major injuries.

A man killed in a two-car collision on U.S. Highway 101 near Morgan Hill over the weekend was identified today as 35-year-old Alberto Hernandez Gomez of Gilroy, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.
Around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a collision on southbound Highway 101 north of Cochrane Road and arrived to find a gray Scion tC on its roof down an embankment near the freeway, California Highway Patrol officials said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver, a 23-year-old Gilroy man, was speeding on a southbound lane where he made an unsafe turn and crashed into a green 2001 Honda Civic, according to the CHP.

The Scion then went off the freeway and overturned, CHP officials said. Hernandez Gomez, a passenger in the Scion, was pronounced dead at the scene and another passenger, a 23-year-old Gilroy man, was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose for major injuries, according to the CHP.
The Scion’s driver and three people from Morgan Hill in the Honda were not injured, according to the CHP.
