Man Killed In Gilroy Freeway Crash
The driver was trying to elude authorities after he skirted a DUI checkpoint according to the CHP.
GILROY, CA — A man who tried to skirt a DUI checkpoint died after his vehicle overturned during a pursuit on U.S. Highway 101 in Gilroy early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pursuit, first reported at 1:03 a.m. Sunday, involved the driver of a Ford Mustang who failed to yield for a suspected DUI enforcement stop on northbound Highway 101 north of Leavesley Road in Gilroy.
The driver continued north until his Mustang sideswiped a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado south of Coyote Creek Golf Drive south of San Jose and overturned, coming to rest on its roof, trapping the driver inside, according to the CHP.

The driver, whose name has not been released, succumbed to his injuries from the crash. The driver and passenger in the Silverado were uninjured.
