Gilroy School Makes U.S. News Rankings 2016 Best High Schools

Dr. T.J. Owens Gilroy Early College Academy made the list for Top Schools in California.

GILROY - Dr. T.J. Owens Gilroy Early College Academy is ranked the 15th best high school in California by the prestigious US News and World Reports 2016 rankings, and ranked 113th nationally.

The school was singled out because "Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Dr. T.J. Owens Gilroy Early College Academy is 100 percent. The student body makeup is 48 percent male and 52 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 67 percent. Dr. T.J. Owens Gilroy Early College Academy is 1 of 4 high schools in the Gilroy Unified School District."

No other high schools in the Gilroy District were ranked.

"The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia," states U.S. News & World Report. "Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments, their graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college."

The report includes information about curriculum, test scores and student demographics.
