UPDATE: Remaining Gilroy Road Closures

BREAKING: Silva's Crossing remains closed, and several trails in the Uvas Creek Park Preserve have also been closed.

UPDATE: 11 am 1/9/17

U.S. Highway 101 in Gilroy reopened the morning of Jan. 9 after severe flooding the night before caused it to close, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The flooding began around 7:30 p.m., prompting CHP officials to close it in both directions between 10th Street and state Highway 25.

The southbound lanes were reopened this morning around 4 a.m., followed by the northbound lanes at 5 a.m., according to CHP Officer Chris Miceli.

Also just outside of Gilroy, CHP officials have closed state Highway 152, which leads to Hollister, because of a mudslide.

The highway, also known as Hecker Pass Highway, is closed between Watsonville Road and Pole Line Road in both directions, Miceli said.

A Caltrans crew is set to survey the road this morning in order to organize a cleanup for the area.
The highway's closure is indefinite since the cleanup and repairs could take days or even weeks, according to Miceli.

GILROY, CA -- Now that the storm that passed through the area over the weekend has subsided, the need for voluntary evacuations in the city has subsided, and Uvas Creek levels that peaked at about 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 8 are beginning to recede, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

The GPD also says that the Wheeler Community Center evacuation center had no visitors and has closed, and that Silva’s Crossing (pictured above) remains closed, and several trails in the Uvas Creek Park Preserve have also been closed.

Police are advising residents to stay away from the creek, since moving water can be extremely dangerous and may rise unexpectedly.

The following roadways were also closed as of 10 pm Sunday, Jan. 8:

  • Highway 101 southbound from Tenth Street and northbound from Highway 25 to Tenth Street due to flooding.
  • Hecker Pass (152) is expected to be completely closed until late evening Jan. 9, at the earliest.
  • Hyde Park at Luchessa (access to Hyde Park from Church St.)
  • Silva’s Crossing
  • Bolsa Road and Monterey Road
  • Monterey Road between Masten Avenue and Buena Vista (both directions)
  • Day Road between Santa Teresa and Monterey Road
  • Day Road West at Puma Way
  • Ocelot Place, Jaguar Place, Lynx Place, and Bobcat Court are all closed
