SCC Sheriff's Office And Gilroy Police Department On Scene At Mantelli Explosion Site

On October 12, 2020, at 2:20 PM, the Gilroy Fire Department responded to the area of Mantelli Drive between Rancho Hills Drive and Learnard Way on the report of an explosion. It was determined an adult male sustained serious injuries from the explosion and was transported to a local trauma center.

On October 13, 2020, The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and Gilroy Police Department’s CSI team are on-site processing the scene at 1711 Mantelli Drive, Gilroy.
The injured male was determined to be a 53-year-old male that lives at the residence. The male is currently being treated at an area trauma center. There were no other injuries.

It is still unknown how long the street will be closed while the scene is being processed.
The types of explosives on-scene are still undetermined, but it does not appear to be related to a drug lab.
The 1700 block of Mantelli Drive, between Rancho Hills Drive and Learnard Way may be closed for multiple days.
