South Bay Woman Killed In Suspected DUI Crash

The four-vehicle crash was reported at 11:36 p.m. on southbound Highway 85 south of Union Avenue, the CHP said.

SAN JOSE, CA — A 61-year-old Hollister woman was killed, and a motorist suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after a crash late Monday night in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Svyatoslav Solovyev, 33 of Cupertino, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, the CHP said.

The four-vehicle crash was reported at 11:36 p.m. on southbound Highway 85 south of Union Avenue, the CHP said.

Investigators determined that Solovyev was speeding in the far left lane of the highway in a 2020 BMW M8 when he made an unsafe lane change and hit the left side of a 2006 Subaru, CHP officials said.

The BMW then continued traveling forward and hit a 2016 Hyundai Accent, causing the Hyundai to be pushed forward into a 2007 Toyota Camry.

The Hyundai driver died after being taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, according to the CHP. Her name hasn't been released.
