WATCH: Gilroy Police 'Wobble' Their Way To Dance-Off Win

The friendly competition amongst Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies took place at Tuesday's National Night Out event in Gilroy.

GILROY, CA -- Gilroy police officers aren't all about writing tickets and making arrests -- at least that's what they conveyed Tuesday when members of the Gilroy force competed in a dance-off as part of a National Night Out event the Gilroy Police Department hosted downtown.

Representatives from Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies including the sheriff, district attorney and probation offices took part in the friendly competition. In the end, though, Gilroy police dancing to a mix composed of a salsa-music favorite and the hip-hop hit, "Wobble," won the most cheers from community members.

In a salute to his winning team, police Chief Scot Smithee recalled seeing them practicing the routine in the midst of 100-degree Gilroy weather.

" ... I see these guys jumping all around and I think, 'What the heck?,'" Smithee recalled. "Anyway, now I know what they were doing -- and how about one more round of applause!"

The Gilroy police routine begins at about 4:24 into the video below:
