Woman Badly Injured In Christmas Day Crash Near Gilroy Dies
The victim was a 64-year-old resident of Gilroy.

A woman injured in a two-vehicle accident outside Gilroy on Christmas Day and who died on New Year’s Eve has been identified as Socorro Alfaro, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.
Alfaro, 64, of Gilroy, was badly hurt in the wreck reported at 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 25 on Roop Road at New Avenue in an unincorporated county area about a mile east of Gilroy, an employee of the medical examiner’s office said.
She died of her injuries at a hospital at 6:16 p.m. on Wednesday, the employee said.

On Dec. 25, Alfaro was in a Chrysler PT Cruiser heading westbound on Roop where there was a stop sign but she failed to yield at the intersection and turned to drive southbound onto New, which is a through road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Alfaro’s car crashed into the left side of a Toyota RAV4 SUV driven by a woman going 45 to 50 mph southbound on New, causing the SUV to rollover onto the road’s southbound shoulder, the CHP said. The PT Cruiser drifted and came to stop on the southbound shoulder of Roop, according to CHP officers.

Alfaro suffered severe injuries in the collision but was conscious and able to provide a statement to CHP officers at the scene, the CHP said.
She said she was driving about 20 to 30 mph from Roop onto New, saw the Toyota coming but was not able to stop in time to avoid the crash, according to the CHP.
The driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital as a precaution but was not seriously hurt, the CHP said. Alfaro was a 1968 graduate of Gilroy High School, according to the website classmates.com.
