YOUTH SPORTS: Gilroy Junior Little League Team Tops Evergreen Valley

Fireworks are an American tradition on our nation's birthday every Fourth of July.

Turned out the Gilroy Little League Junior All-Star team had some fireworks left over for its biggest game of the summer.

Gilroy pulled to within one game off the District 59 Tournament of Champions crown with a 10-5 victory over Evergreen Valley Tuesday evening in Milpitas.

The winner of the tournament will head to the sectionals in Salinas which begins over the weekend.

Entering with 10-2 in the sixth, Gilroy continued to keep the heat on its opponent. 

Gilbert Cano (12), Dillon Day (7), Brendan Reimer (2), Josh Wheat and Joseph Lujan (24) all contributed in a big way.

Three late runs by Evergreen Valley made things a little closer, but the wide gap couldn't be closed up in the final inning of play.
