210 Freeway Motorcycle Chase Ends in North Hollywood

A motorcyclist led police on a weaving chase fromΒ San Bernardino County through the San Gabriel Valley today, occasionallyΒ punching side mirrors off vehicles he passed before veering into a constructionΒ zone near North Hollywood, where he was arrested.

The pursuit began when California Highway Patrol officers tried to pullΒ the motorcyclist over for speeding in the Rancho Cucamonga area in SanΒ Bernardino County around 3:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist rode west into Los Angeles County, with authorities inΒ pursuit in patrol cars, on motorcycles and in helicopters. As he rode, theΒ motorcyclist reached and punched side mirrors on several vehicles, appearing atΒ one point to injure his left hand as he punched the side of a pickup truck.

He continued weaving in and out of lanes, turning at one point to makeΒ an obscene gesture at pursuing officers.

As he rode into the North Hollywood area, he veered the motorcycle intoΒ a construction area, eventually falling from the bike, apparently in pain. HeΒ was quickly apprehended by pursuing CHP officers.

CHP Officer Ming Shu said the motorcyclist was traveling at speeds up to
90 mph during the chase.
