5 Budget-Friendly Tips For a Memorable Prom

Yes, you can enjoy prom without going broke. Here's how!

Perhaps you have been so busy studying for the SAT’s (right?) that you have not had a chance to get your prom arrangements squared away.  Never fear, Cinderella never had a better fairy godmother than the Glendora Patch.  Here are five tips for getting ready for your royal ball.

Get pretty

For the budget-minded, Citrus College’s School of Cosmetology offers $4 manicures, $5 pedicures and $8 haircuts.  They are open M-F from 8 am – 2 pm and T-Th from 5 pm – 10 pm.  Call 626-335-1234 for appointments.  You can also call 626-914-8778 for esthetician services, such as facials.  If you need your nails or hair done the day of prom, try any one of our great local shops.

Get dressed

Why go to Windsor or Macy’s and drop a fortune on a dress you will wear once?  Check out local thrift shops, such as and the new Goodwill store on Grand and Foothill (the original one at s also still open).

Get flowers

Many local florists are taking orders for boutonnieres and corsages.  However, if you are on a budget or the florists are booked, try the floral department in Vons.  Even better, are you the crafty, DIY type?  Then go in with a group of friends and split the cost of some flowers from Sam’s Club or Trader Joe’s, florist tape and pins, ribbon and wire from Michael’s and make them yourself (here’s how by a knowledgeable, albeit somewhat creepy guy).  It is unbelievably easy and you can save a bundle!

Get fed

For the pre-prom munchies, you can have an early dinner in town.  Use Restaurant.com (and the code PLATE for an additional 70% off) to get a great meal for a deal.

Post-prom, there are the usual local late night hangouts: , and .  But if you want to try something near your prom location, head over to Yelp.com, search for “food” and enter the address of your location.

Under “Features”, select “More Features”, then “Open at:” and type in the general time you want, such as 11:00 pm, to make sure it is open late.  You can also select “$” for the cheaper eateries and sort by “Best Rated ” to list the cheapest, yummiest places first.

Make sure to be selective of the neighborhoods you frequent—better to be safe than sorry!

Get home safe

Speaking of safe, we know you would never, ever drink and drive (let alone drink, which we all know is illegal for minors), but we know other people might. Do not even think about setting foot into a car with anyone who has had a drop of liquor (or any other illegal substance, for that matter).

Instead, call Jan’s Towing for a free ride and tow home (within 7 miles), a taxicab (Express Orange Cab taxi service is right here in Glendora) or a trusted adult.  One last word to the wise: the best way to have great memories of prom night is to be clear-headed enough to actually remember prom night!
