Diwali is a major Hindu festival celebrated by millions of people in India and around the world, as well as by some Jain, Sikh and Buddhist communities. Often called the Festival of Lights, it typically features the lighting of oil lamps, colorful decorations, family gatherings and the sharing of sweets. The holiday's themes include the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, though traditions and meanings vary among communities.
