Brothers' 32 Points Not Enough, Loses to Damien 67-53 in Sierra Vista / Covina Tournament Final
Damien's Jeremy Hemsley leads three Spartans in double figues to dethrone Glendora in the Sierra Vista/ Covina tournament final
COVINA – Brandon Brother’s 32 points was not enough as Glendora was unable to repeat as
champions of the fifth annual Covina/Sierra Vista tournament, falling to Damien 67-53 Saturday night.
Robby Miller and Joseph Alverez chipped in seven points each for the Tartans who suffered its first defeat of the young season. The Tartan big men contributed defensively as well, tallying five and three rebounds, respectively.
After Brother’s basket to open the game, the Spartans went on a 15-0 run, before Glendora’s Peyton Perry Finally ended the drought with less than two minutes to go in the first quarter.

Bryce Peters opened the game quickly for Damien, converting his first three 3-pointers enroute to the 15-0 run for the Spartans. Malik Fitz added five for the Spartans during the run.
Jeremy Hemsley led the way for Damien with 23 points with three assists, a steal and a block. Peters added 18 points, three rebounds and two steals, while Fitz chipped in 16 points, four rebounds and two assists for the Spartans who improved to 5-0.

Glendora, however, would not go away, as the Tartans outscored Damien 18-16 in the second quarter to close the gap to 36-24 heading into halftime. Brothers scored 14 of the 18 points in the second quarter to lead the comeback.
The Tartans opened the second half with a 6-3 run, with AJ Bigornia basket to close the gap to 39-30, but that is as close as Glendora would get, as Damien would pull away in the final 14 minutes of the game.
Both Brothers and Bigornia took home All-Tournament honors for Glendora who drops to 4-1 in the early season. Helmsley took home the Tournament MVP for Damien. Fitz and Peters also took home all-tournament honors.
Damien’s head coach Matt Dunn showed high praise for Glendora’s head coach Mike LeDuc.
“There’s a reason why I spend 30 hours a week calling him and picking his brain,” he said. “He (LeDuc) is a great mentor and very good at what he does.”
Glendora opens its own tournament, hosting Sierra Vista tomorrow at 7:30 pm.
