Citrus College Named a Military Friendly School 10 Years in a Row

For an entire decade, Citrus College has earned annual recognition as a Military Friendly School for its commitment to helping veterans successfully transition from the military to higher education.

This past year, nearly 400 student veterans benefitted from services provided by the Citrus College Veterans Success Center (VSC), a physical resource on campus that provides access to computers, academic counseling, financial aid assistance and mental health services. At the VSC, student veterans can also meet with a full-time staff member dedicated to helping them with the certification of their U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits.

Citrus College's supportive environment for student veterans, coupled with the college's ability to meet specific academic thresholds, such as student retention, persistence and graduation rates, contributed to this year's "Gold" distinction.

"Due to the exceptional work of the Veterans Success Center, our student military service members and veterans are receiving expert support services that equip them to succeed in the classroom, while also preparing them to excel in their future careers," said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "Citrus College is proud to receive this outstanding recognition and aims to continue enhancing its services for this exceptional community on campus."

Throughout 2020, Citrus College will appear on militaryfriendly.com as well as the "2020 Guide to Military Friendly Schools," which is published in G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse magazines. The Military Friendly Schools list is designed to aid military service members in choosing colleges and universities with a reputation for helping student veterans succeed academically.

Citrus College scored remarkably high in several categories outlined on the Military Friendly website, including "Culture and Commitment" and "Military Student Support and Retention."

"Being designated a Military Friendly School for 10 consecutive years indicates that Citrus College understands how to effectively navigate the complexities of serving this important student population," said Dr. Patricia A. Rasmussen, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. "I am proud of the college's faculty and staff for serving our student veterans with such care, and I am confident that future generations of veterans will also be prepared to accomplish their academic and professional goals."
