Despite Committing Five Turnovers, Charter Oak Holds and Escapes with 28-0 Victory over Walnut
Chargers commits five turnovers, two inside the Red Zone and escapes with a 28-0 win, though the game is not as close as the score implies
COVINA – Despite five turnovers, the Charter Oak Chargers scored once in each quarter and escaped with a 28-0 over the visiting Walnut Mustangs in a Hacienda League matchup Friday night.
Junior quarterback Kam Brown accounted for three of the Chargers’ four scores, with two scoring passes of 26 and 13 yards, and a scoring run from 8 yards. He finished 20 of 30 for 334 yards and the two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Doreon Nash and Brian Casteel each were targeted five times and finished with 105yards and 116 yards and one touchdown respectively.

The game, however was not as close as the score would indicate because Charter Oak also committed five turnovers (three fumbles, two interceptions), two of which was inside the Red Zone.
Already leading 14-0, the chargers forced the Mustangs to fumble to stop a possible scoring drive, but then immediately fumble on the ensuing play giving the ball back to Walnut on the 4-yard line.

Casteel was then on a receiving end of a 45-yard pass and fumbled away an apparent touchdown near the goal line.
Walnut’s Mario Chalew intercepted Brown twice late in the game to keep the game close. The first was at their own 2 yard line to stall another Charger drive and then another one in the next series near midfield.
The Mustangs had a chance to avoid the shutout late in the game, but Charter Oak preserved the shutout with a goal line stand with less than a minute to go.
Charter Oak (4-4, 2-1) travels to league leader West Covina (6-0, 3-0) next Friday for a possible share of the league championship. Kickoff is 7 pm
