Dr. Joumana McGowan appointed vice president at Citrus College

The Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Joumana McGowan, Ed.D., as the vice president of academic affairs at its Nov. 17, 2020, board meeting. She will begin her new role on Dec. 7, 2020.

As vice president of academic affairs, Dr. McGowan will serve as the college's chief academic officer, responsible for educational policy and academic programs. She will provide executive leadership and management for a comprehensive array of student learning and support operations, including development of new instructional programs and courses in conjunction with the educational component of the college's Educational and Facilities Master Plan, as well as learning support services that promote student success and completion.

"I congratulate Dr. McGowan on her appointment, and I look forward to working with her to advance student success at Citrus College," said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "Students, faculty and staff will benefit tremendously from Dr. McGowan's leadership and knowledge."

Dr. McGowan comes to Citrus College with over 21 years of experience in higher education. Most recently, she served as the associate vice president of instructional services for six years at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), where she provided administrative direction and oversight for eight divisions. Prior to this role, she served as the dean of business at Mt. SAC for over four years. Dr. McGowan was also previously the dean of instruction at Coastline College, where she oversaw the business, computer information systems, and career and technical education departments. Her teaching experience includes being a full-time tenured faculty member, business management department chair and faculty senate president at Fullerton College.

Dr. McGowan holds an associate degree from Mt. SAC, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; and a doctorate degree and graduate certificate in community college leadership from the University of Southern California. Dr. McGowan has participated in numerous leadership training programs and, in 2018, completed the Harvard University Institute for Management and Leadership in Education program.
