Farewell to Cruz as Flores Sworn In

On December 10, 2015, we gathered in the COHS Library to bid farewell to outgoing Board Member Robert J. Cruz.

On December 10, 2015, district administrators, teachers classified staff and community members gathered in the COHS Library to bid farewell to outgoing Board Member Robert J. Cruz. Mr. Cruz served the students of Charter Oak for over 20 years bringing such programs as Project Lead the Way, the Green Team and a strong stance on bullying to the District.
Later that evening, following a review by Superintendent Hendricks of Mr. Cruz’ accomplishments as Board President in the past year, Mrs. Jeanette Flores was sworn in by her proud husband, Gabriel Flores in front of an audience of supportive family and friends.
Jeanette Flores is a native of the East San Gabriel Valley. She was raised in El Monte and currently resides in Covina with her family. As a mother of four and an engaged community resident, she proudly calls Charter Oak home. Ms. Flores and her husband chose the Charter Oak Unified School District as the place to raise and educate their four children and have been active in the community for over a decade. Ms. Flores serves as President for the Badillo Elementary School PTA, Board Secretary for San Gabriel Valley YWCA, Delegate for Covina/West Covina Soroptimist International and member of the Charter Oak Women’s Club.
In her current role as Director, Southern California for the California Center for Public Health Advocacy (CCPHA) she leads the Southern California region policy and outreach initiatives focused on health, wellness and prevention.
Ms. Flores is a graduate of the H.O.P.E, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality leadership institute and recent graduate of EMERGE California, a political candidate training program for women who aspire to run for office. She was also named Woman of the Year for the 48th Assembly District in 2013.
Ms. Flores earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and her master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Long Beach. She enjoys spending time with her husband and four children, traveling and volunteering to support local youth programs.
The Board and staff look forward to working with Mrs. Flores.
