Fuel Spill Prompts Closure of 57 Freeway

Lanes have been reopened but there may be some residual traffic.

GLENDORA, CA - A diesel fuel spill from a big rig prompted the closure of three lanes on the Orange (57) Freeway in Glendora on Thursday, as well as the transition from the northbound 57 to the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Authorities received reports of the spill around 1 a.m., CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said. The tank of a big rig ruptured, causing about 100 gallons of fuel to spill onto the freeway, he said.

A SigAlert was issued, and CalTrans workers were cleaning up the mess. Two lanes were open. The three that were shut down were reopened by approximately 8 a.m., according to the CHP.
