Glendora Boys, St. Lucy’s Girls Open CIF Basketball Playoffs At Home

The Tartans boys team is seeded fourth in the CIF Division 2A Basketball playoffs.

Glendora High’s boys basketball team earned the No. 4 seeding in the CIF 2A Division playoffs, it was announced Sunday. The Tartans open their pursuit of a CIF title on Wednesday at 7 p.m, when they play host to Eastside, which tied for third place in the Golden League.

Glendora should be playoff ready after a strong showing in the competitive Baseline League. The Tartans tied for second place in the Baseline with Upland, the 11th-seeded team in the 1AA Division. Baseline League champion Etiwanda is the 4th seed in 1AA.

A victory will most likely pit the Tartans against Garden Grove League champion Garden Grove in Friday’s second round. The Argonauts are seeded 13th in the division.

On the girls side, St. Lucy’s also opens the 4AA Division playoffs at home Thursday night at 7 p.m. against La Canada, an at-large entry from the Rio Hondo League. A victory would send St. Lucy’s, which tied for second place in the Sierra League, into Saturday’s second round at No. 2-seeded Bishop Montgomery, which earned a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Quarterfinal and semifinal games for boys and girls will be held next week, with championship games in all divisions scheduled on March 2-5. Championships in most divisions will be held at the Anaheim Arena, with the only exceptions being the 5AA, 5A, 6AA and 6A games, which will be contested at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana.
