Glendora Comes from Behind to Claim Baldwin Park Tourney 47-42

COVINA – For the second game in succession, the Glendora High School boys’ basketball team played its opponent down the wire, and for the second game in succession, the Tartans were able to squeak out a victory, this time against the Thousand Oaks Lancers 47-42 in the championship game of the Baldwin Park / Sierra Vista tip -off tournament Saturday night.

Glendora never led in the game, but was able to survive a relatively slow first quarter tied at 10-10.

Thousand Oaks would then pull away in the second period, going on a 12-4 run, including nine points from Derek Ludlow to outscore the Tartans 15-6 to take a 25-16 lead going into halftime

Ludlow finished with the nine points and two rebounds.  Brothers Matt and Josh Hauser pitched in nine and 10 points, respectively, with Matt recording three steals and Josh tallying three rebounds and two assists along with a steal.

Glendora however would use a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to outscore Thousand Oaks 20-7 to claim the Baldwin Park / Sierra Vista Tournament championship.

AJ Bigornia finished with 13 points, including six in the fourth quarter along with three assists to garner tournament MVP.  Kyle Bracy added 12 points with five rebounds and an assist while Brandon Brothers and Thomas Rico each added nine points for the Tartans, who improved to 4-0 in the young season.  Brothers and Rico were both recognized along with Bigornia on the All-tournament team.

Sierra Vista head coach Herman Flores and co-coordinator of the tournament addressed the crowd during the award ceremony.

“What better way to end the tournament with two class programs in the area, the number one seed playing the number two seed playing in the final.  Next season we will once again have 24 teams and hopefully these teams will join us again.”

Glendora (4-0) next hosts and participate in its “Pride of the Foothills” tournament with pool play beginning Tuesday in several campus sites including Rowland High School, West Covina High School and Glendora High School.
