Glendora, La Verne Officers Look to Repeat Baker to Vegas Wins
The combined team of Glendora and La Verne police officers are set to take on the 120-mile desert race this weekend.
Bragging rights for the Glendora and La Verne police departments are at stake as they take on more than 260 other teams in a grueling 120-mile race across the desert at the Baker to Vegas Relay.
The 27th annual race kicks off Saturday in Baker, California and ends in Las Vegas, Nevada Sunday with 5,000 sworn police officers and more than 20,000 volunteers from across the United States.
A combined team of Glendora and La Verne police officers has taken the championship trophy for the last two years and this year, they plan to repeat their feat.

"The police department has had a lot of success in the race in the past couple of years,” said Lt. Rob Lamborghini.
The race began in 1985 between officers in the Los Angeles Police Department and has since developed a large following across the state. According to race organizers, the race fosters “teamwork, camaraderie, physical fitness and competition,” among officers. In this year’s race, police officers from New Mexico, Arizona and even Canada's Calgary Police Service are also participating.

Each leg of the race varies in distance and difficulty, including strenuous inclines and turns. Police Chief Rob Castro is expected run the final leg of the race.
