Glendora Mororist Arrested for Concealing Knives

Glendora Police arrested a knife-collecting motorist late Saturday following an 11:34 p.m. vehicle stop for speeding in the 800 block of West Dalton Ave., Glendora.

Officers arrested Steven Montoya, 18 of Glendora, on suspicion of possessing a concealed switch-blade knife and for having a shobi-zue in his car. A shobi-zue is a pole concealing a knife or blade which can be exposed by a flip of the wrist or mechanical action.

Shobi-zues are illegal in California.

Glendora Police Lt. Brian Summers explained that possessing a switch blade is a misdemeanor, but concealing a switchblade is considered a felony.

Montoya was held on $20,000 bail, Summers said.

The suspect told police that he likes to collect knives and he just returned from a desert field trip, and the knives were on board for the outing.

Officers became suspicious when they saw a knife on the driver’s side of the floorboard in the car. They searched the car and found several daggers, which are not considered illegal if not concealed on a person.

But in searching the suspect, they found the switchblade.
