Glendora Rotary Focometer Project at the La Fetra Senior Center in Glendora
Trained Glendora Rotary Club members help fit seniors with glasses free of charge on the 3rd Saturday of every month.

Glendora Rotary Club members had another session of their Focometer Project at the La Fetra Senior Center in Glendora this past weekend. Trained Glendora Rotary Club members help fit seniors with glasses free of charge on the 3rd Saturday of every month. During the senior’s visit they have an eye chart test then if found in need of glasses, their vision is tested with the club’s focometer. After a prescription is determined a club member build a pair of glasses free of charge.
Glendora Rotary has been involved in the Focometer project since 2001. A focometer is an instrument that measures refractive errors to make spherical eyeglass prescriptions without the need for complicated protocols, expensive equipment, or electricity. The focometer is monocular and hand-held, and is normally used in natural lighting. Glendora Rotary has sent 9 members to the University of Houston School of Optometry to train to use the equipment. Those members have then trained many more members of the club to do all work involved with the focometer, other than the use of the focometer itself.
