Glendora, St. Lucy's Prepare For CIF Baseball, Softball Playoffs

The Glendora High School baseball team will host the winner of Tuesday’s wild card game between Redondo Union and Damien High Schools, Thursday in a CIF Division 2 first-round game of the 2011 CIF Southern Section Baseball Championships.

Pairings for all divisions in softball and baseball were announced Monday afternoon at the CIF-Southern Section offices in Los Alamitos. Wild card games begin Tuesday, with first round games starting Thursday. Teams playing in wild card games are competing for a spot in first round action.

In all, 289 teams in total qualified for the seven divisional single-elimination baseball tournaments. For softball, 284 teams spanning seven divisions made it to the playoffs.

The Tartans (17-6-1) were the Baseline League champions. Cypress High School is the top seeded team in Division 2 baseball. The Division 2 finals are scheduled for Thursday, June 2 at Dodger Stadium.

In the CIF Division 1 softball playoffs Glendora will play Tuesday in a wild card game against Valencia at Valencia High School.  All Division 1 first-round games will be played Thursday, with all CIF divisional finals scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4.

The Tartans (14-11) received an at-large berth out of the Baseline League, while Valencia (20-8) of Placentia finished third in the Empire League. Anaheim Esperanza High is the top seeded team in Division 1 softball.

In the Division 3 softball playoffs St. Lucy’s will host a wild card game against Fillmore Tuesday. All Division 3 first round games will be played on Thursday.

The Regents (13-12) are the third-place team in the Sierra league, while Fillmore (12-8) came in fourth place in the Tri-Valley League.  Oaks Christian (25-5) is the top seeded team in Division 3 softball.
