
GLENDORA, CA — John Elchert, son of Ken and Celia (deceased) Elchert of Glendora, attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer (CPO) on September 16.
He is a submarine missile technician currently serving in Naval Sea Systems Command at the Washington Navy Yard.
Elchert was one of 45 selectees who achieved this rank in the National Capital Region at the pinning ceremony held at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Of the 22,232 First Class Petty Officers who were considered by the Navy selection boards for the FY 2017 class of CPO’s (the Navy’s 123rd class), only 4765 sailors were selected to receive the CPO anchor pins at Navy ceremonies around the world that day.
The pinning of the anchors on CPO Elchert’s uniform was performed by his father and his uncle, Edward Berumen, of Los Angeles.
