Modernized Campus Center Reopens at Citrus College

The renovation of the Ross L. Handy Campus Center at Citrus College was recently celebrated with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 7.

Dignitaries and civic leaders joined members of the Citrus College community for the dedication and grand reopening of the 55-year-old building.

"The Ross L. Handy Campus Center is an important building on the Citrus College campus. For many years, students, faculty and staff have gathered in this communal space for meetings, workshops and other activities designed to facilitate and celebrate student achievement," said Dr. Perri. "This impressive facility represents the college's continued growth and its long-standing commitment to student success."

Claudette Dain, vice president of finance and administrative services, provided the audience with details about the modernization project, which involved a complete reconstruction of the building's interior.

According to Ms. Dain, changes were made to the building's wall and floor finishes, restrooms, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, technology, and lighting. In addition, a great room, offices, club rooms and break-out rooms were also created.

"Many people played a part in the remodeling of the Campus Center," Ms. Dain said. "From the planners and architects to the construction crew and Citrus College's facilities and maintenance employees, these individuals invested their time and energy to ensure that the college would have another beautiful, high-tech building to meet the needs of students."

The Citrus College Office of Student Affairs, Student Life and Leadership Development, and the Associated Students of Citrus College (ASCC) Executive Board are all located within the Campus Center. Another one of the building's key features is a new food pantry, which is now the largest of three currently available on campus.

After the ribbon cutting, guests were invited to take self-guided tours to explore the building's improvements, which were partially funded by the Measure G general obligation bond.

"When Citrus College cuts the ribbon for a renovated building, it provides the college community with a unique opportunity to reflect on its past and focus on its future," said Mrs. Susan M. Keith, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. "The newly refurbished Ross L. Handy Campus Center is one more example of Measure G dollars at work, and I express my sincere appreciation to our communities for supporting this important initiative so many years ago."
