Today begins Coachella’s first weekend, which means there will be no end to the must-go-to music festivals until winter swings around again to briefly save us from the relentless marketing and repetitive lineups.
These are not the complaints of someone who failed to get a ticket, but rather a fan who would like to enjoy music festivals again. At one point the aim for going to a festival was to connect with numerous musicians and to create a unique experience based around that weekend’s music. Now it serves as a runway for fashion magazines and to test how much consumers can actually spend before choosing to walk off the grounds permanently.
