Road To CIF Soccer Title Looks Clear For Glendora Boys

St. Lucy's hosts its first-round match while the Glendora girls hit the road.

Winning the Baseline League earned Glendora High School’s boys soccer team a home game in the first round of the CIF Division 1 playoffs, if not an easy road to the championship game.

The Tartans start the playoffs by hosting Aliso Niguel, the No. 3 team from the South Coast League, on Friday at 3 PM. A victory will most likely put Glendora up against Huntington Beach Edison, champion of the Sunset League and the division’s top-seeded team, in the second round on Feb. 23.

Glendora’s girls will open the playoffs on the road as the No. 3 team from the Baseline League. The Tartans travel to Southwestern League champion Temecula Great Oak for their first round game on Thursday at 3 PM. The winner will face either Corona or Fullerton Sunny Hills in the second round on Feb. 22.

The St. Lucy’s soccer team, which took second in the Sierra League, will host a first-round game on Thursday against Yorba Linda, the No. 3 team from the Empire League. A victory by the Regents would set up a second-round match against Phelan Serrano or Padadena Mayfield on Feb. 22.

Championship games in all six divisions for girls and boys will be held Mar. 4 and 5.
