St Lucy's Drop Second League Contest, Falls to Etiwanda 62-21
St Lucy's couldnt figure out Etiwanda's pressing defense, held scoreless in the second quarter in second consecutive league loss in Baseline
GLENDORA – The St. Lucy’s basketball team received a rude welcome into the Baseline league, dropping its second league contest in as many tries to the Etiwanda Eagles 62-21 Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles show why they were last season’s league champions and state qualifier as they constantly harassed the Regents causing numerous turnovers while holding the hosts scoreless in the second quarter enroute to the blowout win.
Gracyn Helbert led the way for the Regents with eight points, six of the points in the second half when the game has already been decided. Natalie Guillen chipped in five points, while Havalin Nyviyh tallied four points but crashed the boards, grabbing nine rebounds and a block for the hosts who fell to 0-2 in the Baseline League.
It was the Regents who made a dent in the scoreboard first as Guillen would score the first basket of the game enroute to a quick 7-2 lead. Etiwanda, however, went on a 14-3 run, including all five of Gabrielle Leos’s points to tie the game at 7-7. Alize Williams then made a basket to take the first lead for the eagles at 11-10, and then closed out the quarter with a 3-pointer to take a 16-10 lead.

It was all Etiwanda as they held the regents scoreless the second quarter until Guillen scored the last of her points in the game early in the third quarter. St Lucy’s still had no answer for Etiwanda’s trap as it finished the game with only 21 points.
