Candidate Filing Closes Tomorrow For November 2012 Elections

City of Half Moon Bay City Council candidates, running for office in the Nov. 6, 2012 Presidential General Election, have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10 to file their candidacy with Half Moon Bay City Clerk Siobhan Smith.

To date only two incumbents, Marina Fraser and “Farmer” John Muller, have qualified for the ballot, according to Siobhan.

“The following individuals, John Ullom and Harvey Rarback, have pulled papers, but have not yet filed,” said Siobhan.

Those interested in running for office in the Nov. 6, 2012 Presidential General Election also have until 5 p.m. tomorrow to file their candidacy with the San Mateo County Elections Office.  

The candidate-filing period for the November Presidential General Election opened on July 16. The law provides candidates with a 26-day window in which to file the necessary paperwork. 

The complete Roster of Candidates, including municipal information such as Half Moon Bay’s one-half cent tax measure to fund Half Moon Bay City services, is posted online and updated every evening.

“The Nov. 6, 2012, election features much more than the Presidential Race. There are several local offices and measures that are on the ballot for the voters’ consideration,” said Mark Church, Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder. “Information regarding each measure will be posted online as it is received.”

The candidate-filing period will automatically be extended for five calendar days (until Aug. 15) for any office where an eligible incumbent does not file to run for reelection. 

The close of the candidate-filing period also marks the opening of the 10-day public review period when any member of the public has the opportunity to review resolutions, ordinances, tax rate statements, and candidate statements. 

Any registered voter of the election jurisdiction, or the elections official, may seek a writ of mandate or injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted. This initial public review will run from Aug. 10-20.
