Last Chance: Filing Period for November Elections Closes Friday
Fifteen seats are up for grabs in Coastside elections. Will there be enough candidates for all of the open positions?

Those interested in running for office in the Nov. 5 election have until 5 p.m. this Friday to file all necessary paperwork, according to the San Mateo County Elections Office.
Locally, 15 seats on five Coastside boards are open. Voters will determine board leadership for these positions, which for the most part supervise services in water, fire protection, sanitation, and environmental and economic planning.

β’ Montara Water and Sanitary District, 3 open seats
β’ Midcoast Community Council, 4 open seats
To date, numerous candidates have filed to run for local offices in the 13 cities, 15 school districts, and 17 special districts in San Mateo County.Β
Coastside candidates who have filed so far include:
β’ Incumbents Harvey Rarback, Ginny McShane and Gary Burke for the Coastside Fire Protection District
β’Incumbents Gael Erickson and Leonard Woren for the Granada Sanitary District
β’ Brandon Kwan and incumbents Jim Harvey and Bob Ptacek for the Montara Water and Sanitary District
β’ Dave Olson and Chris Johnson for the Midcoast Community Council
No one as of Aug. 6 has filed to run for the two seats on the Coastside County Water District. Incumbents Chris Michelsen and Bob Feldman havenβt announced whether they are running.

If an eligible incumbent for an office does not file by 5 p.m. on Aug. 9, the candidate-filing period for that office will automatically be extended until 5 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2013. The eligible incumbent will not be able to file during the extended candidate-filing period. Only new candidates, who did not begin their filing during the candidate-filing period, can file during the extension. Β Β
