Residents, Staff Recognized for Service, Softball

Half Moon Bay-area residents and city staff excelling in community service and achievement were honored last night by Mayor Naomi Patridge and the Half Moon Bay City Council.

Former Recreation Supervisor Dirk Alvarado, Administrative Assistant Caroline Weigandt, volunteers, and former commissioners of the Recreation Department were honored. Commissioners now comprise a Recreation Committee, and are seeking to establish a 501(c)3 nonprofit recreation foundation as a way to raise funds for local programs. The Committee will also meet regularly with the City of San Carlos' Recreation Department as a form of community oversight for the new contractor of services. San Carlos commenced its contract in Half Moon Bay on July 15.

Alvarado played a retrospective slideshow he created of programs and activities sponsored by the department featuring photos stretching back to 1985. At the end of the show, a series of slides listed all former staf and former commissioners. Click on the media gallery of photos to view a list of the former staff and commmissioners honored.

• Members of the Coastside Fireworks committee and the American Legion members of the Coastside Fireworks committee for preserving what Patridge said was "a slice of America on the California Coast" for the last 15 years

• Half Moon Bay Rotary Club for what Patridge said was their "dedication and service to the community," through service projects such as working with the Coastside Mother's Club to raise funds for new playground equipment, Rotacare clinic, international water quality projects, and sports team support.
