How high gas prices are affecting the City of Hanford (hanfordsentinel.com) β Hanford residents are seeing higher trash rates and city fuel costs as gas prices in the HanfordβCorcoran area jump roughly 27% in a year. Public Works says diesel-hungry garbage trucks and other fleet vehicles are straining the budget, but services like trash pickup will not be cut. Measure H funds and a push toward electric vehicles are helping the city manage costs while exploring more EV charging stations around town.

Fresno Bee Top 25: Clovis West falls in rankings, Sanger remains after win (fresnobee.com) β Hanford High's football team climbed to No. 9 in the Fresno Bee's Central Section Top 25 after a dominant 42-7 win over Frontier and now hosts Centennial this Friday at 7:30 p.m. The updated rankings show big shifts for several Valley programs, but Hanford remains undefeated at 3-0 and firmly in the regional spotlight heading into another key home matchup.

3. Ford driver seriously injured in Hanford head-on crash (yourcentralvalley.com) β A head-on collision near Hanford on Grangeville Boulevard west of 14th Avenue left the driver of a 2002 Ford pickup with major injuries and the Toyota Tacoma driver with minor injuries. The California Highway Patrol says the Ford crossed into the westbound lane and struck the Tacoma Friday morning. Identities of those involved have not yet been released.

4. Will the economy motivate voters? This Central Valley swing district could be a test (fresnobee.com) β Rising costs for Hanford families, from rent to groceries, are shaping how local voters view this fall's high-stakes race between Rep. David Valadao and challenger Randy Villegas in the 22nd District. Residents at the Hanford farmers market and around Kings County describe cutting back on extras, turning to food drives, and feeling politically discouraged, even as many still plan to vote in hopes of economic relief.
