HEALDSBURG, CA — One of September's hottest tickets may involve paying to sit in a dark room packed with strangers, neighbors, and acquaintances of varying degrees as True West Film Center marks its first anniversary in Healdsburg with a fundraiser honoring an acclaimed screenwriter.
True West Film Center will mark its first anniversary Sept. 25 with a celebration and fundraiser honoring screenwriter Michael Tolkin, whose credits include "The Player," "Escape at Dannemora," "Changing Lanes," and "Deep Impact."
The red carpet rolls out at the James Redford Campus in Healdsburg to raise money for the film center's community education and film programs — and just celebrate.
True West Film Center opened in October 2025 at the former Bear Republic Brewing facility, establishing a permanent home for cinema in Healdsburg.
The center operates three screens that show a mix of first-run films and classic movies.
Some are Hollywood pleasure go-to's — "The Devil Wears Prada 2" — to the ecstatic Shaker musical drama "The Testament of Ann Lee" and "Pillion," a romance pairing a shy young man with a commanding biker.
True West's mission also includes locally focused cultural programming and media arts opportunities for students in northern Sonoma County.
The anniversary fundraiser helps True West Film Center continue its cinema, education, and community programming as it enters its second year in Healdsburg.
